Farnham Town 1 Fleet Town 2

So the FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round Replay at Farnham couldn’t be another game of two halves just like all of Fleet’s game so far? Well yes sort of. With a change of formation to a more 4-4-2 style Fleet started really well and moved the ball around putting Farnham under pressure and making a few half chances that Enow, Brad and Aaron were unable to convert. When the Fleet attacks broke down Brad Passfield was there to win a number of towering headers. As the half wore on Farnham grew into the game and took the lead when a break and cross from the right wing was easily converted at the back post by Charlie Oakley. Farnham really should have doubled their lead in the last minute of the half when their striker hit the post from about a yard out with the goal empty. Seeing Fleet Town Assistant Manager remove his coat on the walk to the dressing room gave an impression of the kind of team talk the team were in for….

In the second half Fleet again started brightly and had some good attacking moves but looked like they would struggle to break a resolute Farnham defence down. Enow Ojong was now playing a lot more on the defenders shoulder and putting them under pressure. The equaliser when it cam was a thing of beauty. A cross from the left wing floated into the box and Enow Ojong leapt and performed a perfect overhead volley slamming to the ball into the back of the net before anyone really realised what had happened. This great goal gave Fleet confidence and they managed to double their lead when Tom Williams scored his first goal for the club pouncing in a goalmouth scramble after a corner and slamming the ball into the top of the net. There were still some worries at the back for Fleet and a couple of ricochets certainly looked more dangerous than they ended up being. Fleet however managed to see out the game and will host either Alresford Town or Baffins New Milton in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup, game to be played on Saturday 24th August.
