Fleet Town 1 Larkhall Athletic 2
Fleet Town went into this match still on a high from their victory over second place Yate Town last Tuesday. It only took four minutes for Fleet to take the lead, Sam Williams lifted a free kick into the middle of the box, collected by Kofi Haliday, on his return from a long injury layoff, it took a moment to get the ball out from under his feet before firing the ball home. Youth team stars Ross Ewen and Jack Selby were driving Fleet forward as they looked to build on the early goal, but the best chance came from another set piece, Sam Williams taking the free kick, out to Kofi Haliday on the right, he laid the ball back to Jack Selby to play it into the box for Meshach Williams, he got a shot in but it was blocked. Larkhall had been building their way back into the game, but finding Ronan Silva and Will Boye in solid form to deny the visitors clear openings. But after twenty minutes, Fleet were only able to half clear the ball and it was played back into the box for Wayne Nderemani to collect and slide the ball past Harvey White for an equaliser. Lifted by the goal, the visitors were having most of the possession, lots of fast passes knocking the ball around but not threatening to add to the score, while Fleet were playing more aerial balls, being headed on but then easily snuffed out by Larkhall. Half time came with the game still poised at 1-1. Larkhall came close to grabbing the lead, but Harvey White pulled off the save of the game to get down low to deny Matt Britton, but after an hour Alex Lambert ghosted in at the far post to reach a deep cross and beat Harvey White to the ball to touch it in and give the visitors the lead. With both defences on top, chances were at a premium, both sides had one of those mad moments, of pinball in the box, getting in a string of shots, but each one striking defenders legs and getting another shot in and blocked again, but the chances came and went with no addition to the score. With the other sides around Fleet in the table all losing as well, Fleet remain in a relegation slot of 19th place and five points away from safety.
Fleet Town take a break from the pressure of the League on Tuesday 5th with a cup match against Sholing in the Semi-Final of The Russell Cotes Cup, before two long away trips to Worcestershire and Devon the next two Saturdays when they play play off contenders Evesham United and current basement side Barnstaple Town.
