Fleet Town 2 Farnham Town 2
With a strong wind howling around Calthorpe Park, a good FA Cup tie was played out by local neighbours Fleet and Farnham. As with our other two games Fleet didn’t manage to put a full 90 minutes together and nearly paid for it with their place in the FA Cup.
Farnham came out of the blocks much quicker than Fleet and put the home team under pressure for much of the first 20 minutes of the game. Fleet were left to break with Bradley Wilson and Billy Oram making strides down the wing and putting ex-Fleet goalkeeper Dease Kerrison under pressure. Disaster struck new Fleet goalkeeper Chris Harris who on his debut spilled a cross at a Farnham striker’s feet 6 yards and he made no mistake to put Farnham ahead. They managed to double this lead when they were awarded a penalty on 45 minutes which Matthew Glass put away after Chris Harris couldn’t quite keep it out.
A repeat team talk was needed like Tuesday night against Alresford and although the goals didn’t come as quickly as on Tuesday, come they did. Fleet made two changes at half-time bringing on Enow Ojong and Josh Burrowes to liven up the attack. It took 10 minutes for Fleet to get back into the game with Billy Oram looping a header over the goalkeeper. The game at this point became very stretched with both Fleet and Farnham pushing on for further goals. Farnham had a few long shots that were dealt with by Chris Harris and ultimately Fleet got an equaliser. A shot from Billy Oram was deflected into the corner to send the Fleet crowd into ecstasy. The rest of the second half carried on with both sides pushing for victory with neither wanting a replay, but neither could find a way through, Fleet’s best chance falling to Bradley Wilson.
