Solent University 2 Fleet Town 5
With more injured, suspended and unavailable players than were players in the squad Fleet travelled to Solent University in search of their first 3 points of the season after playing 9 consecutive cup games. Only 11 players and 2 subs made the journey to Southampton but put on a great display to win the game and move themselves up to 16th in the League table.
The game did not start well for Fleet when 16 year old full back Charlie Graves had to go off injured near the start of the game and was replaced by Jack Selby, causing a reorganisation of Fleet’s positional play. In then took a good twenty minutes for Fleet to start to play and get their first goal, a great rabona cross from Aaron Redford was headed in from close range by Jake Hammond, his 4th goal of the season. A second goal came very quickly afterwards when a Bradley Wilson was put into his own net by a Solent defender. This two goal lead seemed to settle Fleet and they continued to attack at will with Taylor Watts scoring a third goal when he was put clean through and rounded the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into the net. Half-time 0-3
The second half didn’t start great when Solent pulled a goal back, this gave all Fleet fan’s concern over what was to take place in the second half. Where Solent going to make a comeback on us like we have on other teams. Much of the second half was even with no further goals until the final quarter. First Cavan Atkinson scored with a header from a corner and the Bradley Wilson went on a trademark run before firing into the corner. 1-5 to Fleet who made their second sub with Pasha Tayo-Walker coming on for Stuart Derry, Solent pulled a second goal back in the last minute but Fleet had done enough for victory. Three points in the bank and a good win that will hopefully help confidence within the first team.
