Alresford Town 2 Fleet Town 1

The re-arranged match between Alresford Town and Fleet Town took place on Wednesday 22nd January. While there was concern that if played on Tuesday the game would have been called off due to frost, on Wednesday the ploughed field that was used for the game was very nearly too waterlogged to play on. Fleet’s new winger Malachi Thomas who transferred to Fleet from Bournemouth made his debut.

The game started in the expected style with Alresford playing direct to their two strikers and Fleet trying to pass the ball forward but themselves playing direct when needed. Fleet took the lead after the quarter hour when a cross was hooked in by Jake Hammond. Both teams had lots of attacks when crosses flashing across the box and final passes being misplaced. Fleet could have extended the lead but for a good save by the Alresford goalkeeper from a Brad Passfield shot. Alresford came into the game more as the half progressed but Chris Harris in the Fleet goal did not have many real saves to make. Half-Time 0-1

The second half continued in exactly the same style with the pitch just cutting up more. Fleet had a number of attacks which were scrambled away of saved well by the Alresford Town goalkeeper. As the half progressed Alresford became more agitated and were desperate to score at least an equaliser. This duly came as the game entered its last quarter and resulted up in the usual ranting from the home manager. A final goal for the home team in the last minute was not really deserved by a battling Fleet performance but that’s life. Unfortunately after the last few games Fleet just couldn’t take enough changes to get a positive result. Full-Time 2-1
