Bashley 0 Fleet Town 0

A very entertaining first game of the season took place at Bashley on Saturday. Fleet arrived with their reformed team with the hope of securing their first league win for a long time. On a sunny and warm afternoon both teams were trying to start their Wessex League Campaign with 3 points.

The first half belonged on the whole to Fleet who played some excellent flowing football with Bashley goalkeeper Ollie Bull making some very good saves. Chances fell to both Aaron Redford and Bradley Wilson but they couldn’t find the back of the net. Cavan Atkinson also hit the bar with a header from a corner. In what Fleet thought was a repetition of last season Bashley broke up the other end and looked sure to score, only for debutant Luke Williams to make an outstanding double save.

The second half showed the classic change in a game of two halves. Bashley came out a different team and dominated possession making a number of chances that were either missed of saved well by Luke Williams. Fleet could only break sporadically but still made chances with Taylor Watts having the best of them. Bashley thought they would take the lead after they were awarded a penalty after a handball by Ross Ewen but the spot kick rattled the crossbar and was scrambled away by the Fleet defence. With more pressure from the Bashley attack Fleet held out till the end of the game and will be pleased to take a point away with them.
