Bideford 2 Fleet Town 1

The home side started the stronger, making the early running they won several corners which Fleet ere able to deal with, until one on fifteen minutes, when a better delivered one found the head of Toby Down to head into the far corner and give Bideford the lead. Fleet then settled into the game and made it much more competitive, with Abdul Rajab showing his skills, he became a marked man and  suffered some heavy challanges. Meshach Williams on his debut got in, but was driven wide before he could strike and eventually the ball ran out. Out of nothing Bideford doubled their lead on thirty minutes when Kevin Squire let fly a thunderbolt from 35 yards that flew into the back of the net, a wonder strike worthy to win any match. Fleet had one good chance to get a goal back before the break with a shot from Abdul Rajab, but the home keeper Steve Oliver was in position to make the save.

In the opening minutes of the second half the home side missed the chance to kill the game off, when Ben Wood crossed the ball to Ryan Turner, standing unmarked in the D, he shot but another fine save from Brendon Norris denied Bideford. But after this, Fleet took over control of the game and dominated possession and just before the hour got a goal back as Abdul Rajab crossed, when the home keeper failed to collect, the ball reached Meshach Williams to tap home. Fleet continued to press on looking for an equaliser and were only denied when one cross/shot glanced off the cross bar. The home keeper Steve Oliver continued to be the busiest and several times had to be on top form to come out and claim the ball as Fleet played the ball in behind the home defence and he only just got there ahead of the Fleet targets. The last few minutes saw Bideford slow the game down in every way they could as they tried to hang on to some of the hardest earnt three points they will get this season.

Despite this loss, the Fleet players made their way home in good spirits and look forward to Tuesday night when they can take a break from League action as they take on Wessex League side Hamble Club in the Hampshire Senior Cup at Calthorpe Park, before the league clash with another Hampshire club, AFC Totton on Saturday 22nd, also home at Calthorpe Park.
