Cowes Sports 4 Fleet Town 4
Not quite sure how to really explain that game…but what a great day out on the Isle of Wight. The Fleet Town massiv had announced it as their away day and travelled in numbers to support the team in possibly the last game of the season…an update from the Sydenhams Wessex League will come Monday Night.
Fleet made a couple of changes from Tuesday night due to availability but were confident going into the game. However Cowes soon showed how difficult they would be when they carved Fleet open a couple of times and then scored. To make matters worse Ude Osim went off with Nathan Cookson to A&E with what transpired to be a dislocated elbow. Taylor Watts came on and Sam Williams returned to right-back. Very quickly Fleet equalised when Dan Bone was played through and just squeezed the ball through the goalkeepers legs. This seemed to spur Fleet on and they made a couple of chances that were spurned and would come back to haunt them. Fleet did however take the lead when a Dan Bone 20 yard shot flew into the net giving the keeper no chance. A third goal followed when Aaron Redford got onto a cross and put it in the bottom corner. Half-time 1-3 although Cowes had still caused Fleet trouble.
After the Fleet Massiv had entertained the bar with songs and drinking over half-time it was onto the second half. A fourth Fleet goal came from another gem of an Aaron Redford free-kick. At 4-1 it seemed that victory was assured especially as more chances were made an unfortunately spurned. Cowes pulled a second goal back and then with 10 minutes to go a fateful substitution was made and everything fell apart for Fleet. Cowes scored again for 3-4 and then in injury time a shot was only parried by Chris Harris and it rolled into the bottom corner for 4-4…what can you say, that’s football. Full-time 4-4
The massiv hit the bar, the coach left to pick up Ude from hospital and a great day was finishing. Thank you to Cowes for their excellent hospitality and a good game. We will update with news of future games as and when we get it from the Hampshire FA and Sydenhams Wessex League.
