Fleet Town 0 Bemerton Heath Harlequins 2

Fleet faced Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the 2nd Round of the Russell Cotes Cup. Both teams made some changes from their league teams as they played for a chance to get through to the next round.

The first half of the game was quite even as both teams probed each other for openings. Fleet’s stumbling block was their final ball as they repeatedly hit the first defender on crosses, the best chance of the half fell to Billy Oram who had his close range shot well saved by the Bemerton goalkeeper. Bemerton had their chances but missed the target when they were well placed. Half-time 0-0.

The second half started in similar vein but the game soon opened up as both teams looked to avoid the dreaded penalties. Bemerton finally took the lead when a collision between two Fleet defenders left their striker clean through on the goal. Bemerton made no mistake to take a 0-1 lead. Fleet soon had a perfect chance to equalise when Aaron Redford was bundled over in the box. With Brad Wilson on the bench the penalty honours fell to Paul Coventry. Unfortunately Paul’s spot kick was well saved and almost instantaneously Bemerton broke to the other end and scored a second goal. Despite lots of pressure from Fleet they were unable to pick up a goal. Full-time 0-2
