Fleet Town 0 Brockenhurst 1

At a wind and rain swept Calthorpe Park, Fleet played another of the top sides in the Wessex league in Brockenhurst, with injuries still an issue after last Saturday. Fleet organised another free entry game to promote local support and achieved a cracking crowd of 241, who roared Fleet on throughout the match.

Fleet started on the front foot and played the ball around nicely, although not making lots of chances they were putting the Brockenhurst defence under pressure. Youngster Jack Selby was pulling the strings in midfield and prompting the attack with intelligent passing, he also had one of the best chances in the first half when a his shot was blocked near the goal line. Fleet also had a good shout for a penalty when Aaron Redford seemed to be bought down by a Brockenhurst defender. As the game moved towards half-time it seemed it would be goalless, but a quick passing move from the Brockenhurst strikers left Will Tickle in on goal. He managed to calmly pass it into the bottom corner for the lead.

The second half was dominated by Fleet as they pushed forward looking for the equaliser. The half took much the same format as the first half and chances from Taylor Watts, Bradley Wilson and Paul Coventry all brought great saves from the Brockenhurst goalkeeper. Unfortunately for Fleet as they pushed on Aaron Redford was sin binned for dissent and this took away some of the pressure that Fleet were building. Another penalty call, this time for handball, was turned down by the referee and as time wore down Brockenhurst used the time well to ensure that they left with the 3 points. Fleet gave one of their best performances of the year but just couldn’t get the goal their play deserved.
