Fleet Town 0 Woking 3

The new season started in boiling 30 degree heat, on a pitch hard and bouncy despite watering the pitch was suffering from the weeks of baking sunshine. Both sides utilised a lot of players, first choice, fringe players and non-club players trialing their skills for the day.

In front of a fantastic crowd of 300, Woking had to be at their best to break down a strong Fleet Town side, needed three special moments of skill to convert some good chances. Woking’s starting Eleven were able to score twice in the first half without reply, as their new German goalkeeper was in the right place to snuff out the few Fleet openings. Woking changed all eleven players at half time, while Fleet only changed four at half time and two during the second half. This new Woking line up carved out several good chances, but most were off target and only found their way past second half keeper Liam Beach once. In the end the two league difference showed Woking as the better side, but Fleet can take heart as this was the first time some of the players took to the field together, and played on the gentle Calthorpe Park slope.

Due to England now being in World Cup action on Tuesday, the friendly that night against AFC Portchester has been cancelled so that the players on both sides can enjoy (prehaps)  the England performance against Columbia. Fleet will be in action next Saturday 7th away to Farnham Town, with a 12 Midday kick off (to avoid a clash with World Cup Quarter Final, should England reach that match) and return to Calthorpe Park on Saturday 14th,  a 3pm kick off against Hartley Wintney.
