Fleet Town 2 AFC Stoneham 1

With the Fleet team returning to something that looked like its pre lockdown 2 style this game was always going to be close. AFC Stoneham sat 7th and Fleet 8th in the league, but Fleet had never beaten AFC Stoneham after losing to them 3 times last season.

Fleet made a lightening start and were in the lead within 3 minutes when Mal Thomas hit a superb shot across the AFC Stoneham box into the bottom corner. A great goal and start to the game, Fleet continued to attack with Leo Decarbo leading the Fleet charge but they couldn’t find a second goal. They were made to be punished for this when a AFC Stoneham freekick beat the Fleet defence and goalkeeper to find its way into the net. The final goal of the game came soon after when Billy Oram picked the ball up 30 yards out drove towards the AFC Stoneham and unleashed a thunderbolt strike that flew past the diving goalkeeper. Fleet had one real chance to add to the score when great wing play from Mal Thomas set up Jake Hammond but he was just unable to hit the target. Angus Youngson kept the Fleet lead in tact with a great overhead goal-line clearance. Half-Time 1-1

The second half was a much more cagey affair with Fleet having to defend well for much of the half. AFC Stoneham came on fully with much pressure and moved the ball around well. Fleet defended well, when the defence was breached the off side flag went up and when it didn’t Harry Nash made some good saves. Full-time 2-1

As the game finished Boris was making his announcement about a 4th tier and with games in the Wessex League now postponed it looks like Fleet again finished with a good win.
