Fleet Town 2 Bournemouth 2
A return to Calthorpe Park for the first time this season as Fleet entertained Bournemouth. A number of changes were made by Fleet as they looked to start their season, these included a debut for 17 year old wing back Lewis Grassi. Fleet also changed formation to play 3 centre backs.
Things however didn’t start the best as a Bournemouth striker waltzed through the Fleet defence in the 3rd minute to put them in the lead. They had obviously been watching Fleet as they only held their lead for three minutes. A jinking Billy Oram run resulted in him slotting the ball past the Bournemouth goalkeeper for the equaliser. The rest of the half was an entertaining game with both sides attacking and finding space. Fleet has lots of pressure but did not really test the goalkeeper, their best effort being when Dan Bone hit a shot that rattled the crossbar. Half-Time 1-1
The second half continued in the same way with a really entertaining game, both sides trying to play good football and attacking at will. Fleet managed to take the lead when Dan Bone scored a great header from a Jack Howard corner. Now in the ascendancy Fleet really pushed on and made lots of chances but either poor finishing or good positioning by the Bournemouth goal keeper denied them. These missed chances came back to bite Fleet in the bum when a Bournemouth break was headed in at the back post for the equaliser.
A very entertaining game finished 2-2 with both teams thinking that they could well have won the game.
