Fleet Town 2 Bristol Manor Farm 2

A thoroughly entertaining game at Calthorpe Park finished 2-2 when Dean Stamp calmly equalised for Bristol Manor Farm in the 94 minute.  With debuts for Dean Bareham and Riccardo Andrady Fleet made a number of changes from their 6-0 defeat at Thatcham on Bank Holiday Monday. Despite these changes Bristol looked like they were heading for a routine victory when Troy Simpson scored after Fleet goalkeeper Brendan Norris dropped a corner at his feet in the 12th minute. The rest of the first half was a midfield battle with Fleet trying to pass the ball and Bristol playing a more direct style. Bristol hitting the bar with a header from a corner was the only real goal action. The half-time score was Fleet 0 Bristol 1. Things didn’t look good for a Fleet comeback when their captain Stuart Derry was sent off midway through the second half for two yellow cards. However, Fleet continued to pass the ball to try and get back into the game, they succeeded in stunning fashion. Fleet’s first goal was also a first club goal for fullback Dan Framp and what a goal. He picked up the ball by the touchline and drifted in beating one defender and drilling an unstoppable shot into the Bristol goal. Ben John got one hand to the ball but couldn’t stop it going in. As the Fleet supporters had only just recovered from celebrating their first goal Fleet scored again. Abdul Rajab beat the offside trap, hit a rasping shot from the edge of the box, which again Ben John couldn’t keep out. Fleet were now leading 2-1 with about 3 minutes to go. Bristol brought on another tall sub and continued to launch the ball into the box in the hope of getting an equaliser, this came 4 minutes into injury time when a flick on landed at Dean Stamp’s feet and he calmly slotted in the equaliser. 2-2 was a fair result as both goalkeepers made crucial saves. Fleet should not feel too downhearted at not quite hanging on for the victory and rather should take forward that when they attacked at pace they caused an established Southern League team plenty of problems. Near the end of the game plucky Billy Oram was able to come out after a lot of treatment, his right arm in a sling to protect his injury picked up in the first half.
