Fleet Town 2 Christchurch 0

A superb battling performance from Fleet bought them a well earned 3 points and inflicted on Christchurch only their 4th league defeat of the season. Fleet were unchanged from their last game against Horndean and the familiarity of of team and formation certainly helped.

Christchurch started the game well as you would expect for a team with their record, playing both passing football and direct balls but the Fleet defence was up to it, with Brad Passfield winning many headers to clear the ball. As the half progressed Fleet grew into it and were passing the ball well but also playing direct when it was necessary. Chris Harris had been lively in the Fleet goal dealing with anything that came his way. Fleet took the lead when Sam Williams flicked in a near post corner, a well deserved goal for another good performance at right-back. Half-Time 1-0.

The second half was just getting into its flow when Fleet doubled their lead. A break down the left hand side with excellent link up play between Jake Hammond and Billy Oram led to Aaron Redford side footing in from five yards out, a similar goal to the one he scored against Horndean. Christchurch came back at Fleet but again Chris Harris was up to everything, making a couple of good one-on-one saves and coming out to collect balls from onrushing strikers. Fleet could have extended their league when Aaron Redford slipped when clean through. The game became feisty towards the end when Christchurch unhappy with losing became physical and tied to wind Jake Hammond up for an off the ball clash. Fleet stood up to the physicality well and ignored all the shouting to gain the 3 points. Well played by Fleet and a thoroughly deserved win.
