Fleet Town 2 Knaphill 1

In front of a bumper Bank Holiday crowd Fleet got their league campaign off and running with a 2-1. Due to playing 2 games in 3 days there were a number of changes to the Fleet team, Rory Barker and Sean Hayes making their first league starts.

The first half started in entertaining fashion with attacking football being the order of the day at 11.30am in the morning. Both sides were making chances and requiring defences to be on good form and goalkeepers alert. Knaphill took the lead when a near post free kick could not be kept out of the net by Lee Allen in the Fleet goal. Knaphill nearly doubled their lead when their striker was played through and a good save by Lee Allen and a double goal-line clearance by Dan Framp kept the ball out of the net. Fleet got an equaliser as the 2nd half wore on, a good passing move between Mal Thomas and Billy Oram lead to Oram hitting a shot from the edge of the area that went in off the post. Half-Time 1-1

The second half was entertaining with both sides attacking trying to gain the three points. Knaphill had a number of good attacks but things changed when Knaphill had a player sent off. Mal Thomas was played clean through and as he was about to shoot he was brought down from behind. The resultant freekick came to nothing and for a few minutes it was hard to see which team had 10 players. Fleet kept going and finally got the winner when Brad Passfield volleyed in a corner from close range (the video can be seen on the Fleet Town twitter account). Full-time 2-1
