Fleet Town 6 Cowes Sports 1

An outstanding performance by Fleet Town put Cowes to the sword on Saturday. After the confidence building victory against Newent Town in the FA Vase, Fleet welcomed back Use Osim to Calthorpe Park. After each side had gained a draw last season with a last minute equaliser, Fleet were intent on not letting it happen again.

Fleet came out of the traps quickly and put Cowes under pressure. This resulted in a reasonably early goal from Billy Oram after he beat a defender and fired goalward from the edge of the box. The ball was missed by a Cowes defender and nestled in the bottom corner. A second goal came quickly when Matty Pearse made a good run down the wing and squared the ball for Mal Thomas to score. Cowes were reeling from Fleet’s fast passing and conceded a third when Rowan Sharratt fired home from a tight angle. Much against the run of play Cowes pulled a goal back on the break. Fleet however were not letting Cowes back in the game and scored a 4th before half-time when Billy Oram converted a penalty. Half-time 4-1

Fleet continued to attack in the second half and added two more goals. Matty Pearse was pushed over by the Cowes goalkeeper at a corner and Billy Oram scored the penalty. This completed a well deserved hat-trick for an on form Billy Oram. A sixth goal came when Brad Passfield managed to get his head to a corner, his first goal of the season. A job well done by Fleet. Full-Time 6-1
