Frimley Green 1 Fleet Town 3

Fleet Town found a way to get past their lower level opponents in this second round tie in the Aldershot Senior Cup. A bright start from Fleet saw James Haworth fail to convert when played in by Luke Haskell, building the pressure with Danilo teasing on the right, but over hitting these early crosses. After sixteen minutes a long ball through the middle was collected by Luke Haskell, the hosts shouting for offside, let him go and Luke calmly found the net to put Fleet in front. Fleet should have doubled the advantage moments later when James Haworth ran down the left and crossed for Matt Bunyan, who was in the open inside the six yard box, but somehow the contact saw the ball fly high over the goal. The midfield battle was resulting in a string of free kicks for both sides, which broke up the flow of play that Fleet were trying to impose o the game. From one of these free kicks, for Fleet, the ball was flicked on by Alex Hendrie to James Haworth, who could only shoot onto the roof of the net. A rare switch from Danilo Cadete saw him try his luck on the left wing, a great run down the wing and cut inside, the ball into the box was spilled by Frimley Green keeper Norman, at the feet of Matt Bunyan who stabbed the ball home for Fleet’s second goal. Right at the end of the half, the hosts got a free kick in midfield, the ball was played long into the box and found Scott Sanders waiting who took the chance and got a goal back for the hosts, making it 1-2 at the break.

Frimley Green lifted by this goal started the second half strongly and forced a couple of corners in the opening five minutes, and one thunderbolt of a shot struck a Fleet defender who happened to be in the way. Fleet weathered this storm as they introduced Patrik Ruzicka after 51 minutes who then made chance after chance for himself and his team mates. One of the best of these was started by Danilo Cadete on the right, he cut into the box before passing to Patrik, who laid the ball off to Matt Bunyan, who again got the ball over the bar from the six yard box. After an hour Luke Haskell passed the ball on to Patrik, who took the ball up to the box, faced by a defender and keeper on the edge of the box, he calmly took a step to the side and passed the ball into the empty net. From here Fleet did most of the running but failed to add to the score and survived a couple of late scares as the hosts shot wide a couple of times in the final moments.
