Hamble Club 1 Fleet Town 0
Turning up at a very wet Hamble with only 12 players was not the best start to a Saturday afternoon and the almost continual rain did not make it any better. Sam Williams was at the game supporting the team as he completed the last match of his 3 match ban.
With Fleet continuing with there three at the back plan from Tuesday night they were able to get both wing backs on the ball moving forward, but the final ball often was not pin point enough. The majority of the first half was controlled by Hamble while Fleet tried to hit on the break. Aiden Upward was solid in goal and collected the wet ball well whilst making a number of routine saves. Hamble had a couple of good chances but were unable to convert due to good defending. Half-time 0-0
With the rain becoming harder and more persistent the football carried on in an entertaining way with both teams trying to attack looking for the first goal. Hamble had the first chances of the half but found Aiden Upward in superb form making a number of outstanding saves. Fleet’s first real chance came when Paul Coventry was played in but his curling shot came back off the post. Fleet then hit the bar when Billy Oram’s shot from the edge of the box cannoned back off the bar. Unfortunately Hamble took the lead when a close range header flashed into the bottom corner to give them the lead. Fleet’s last chance fell to Yannick Tchoundjin whose half volley flashed over the crossbar. So no points from Fleet but a valiant fighting performance from the 12 players at the ground and all with no bookings in a game well refereed.
