Horley Town 2 Fleet Town 0
Fleet returned to league action for their second game in the Combined Counties Southern Division. In midweek Fleet had travelled to Bournemouth Poppies in the 1st Round of the Hampshire Senior Cup. Fleet had won 2-1 in a feisty game that saw two Bournemouth players sent off. Fleet’s goals were scored by Brad Passfield and Elliott Amadieu. There were however a number of changes for the Saturday league game.
The game started in cloudy conditions with both teams attacking. The Fleet defence that had looked solid in previous games was being pushed and pulled by the Horley attack. Both sides were making chances and unfortunately for Fleet they were unable to put the finishing chances to their attacks. Horley did not make the same mistakes and scored a first goal with a long shot and then from a scramble in the Fleet penalty box. Half-time 2-0.
The second half started with Matty Pearse replacing Cam Rowthorne to help with Fleet chasing the game. Fleet did start to get into the game a bit more but they weren’t helped when Elliott Amadieu had to go off with a pulled hamstring. Both teams made chances with Aiden Upward making two excellent saves. A five minute period of the game showed it wasn’t to be Fleet’s day; first they had a shot cleared off the line from inside the six yard box and then the goalkeeper made a good save from a jinking Mal Thomas run. Tom Wensley had to leave the field after a clash of heads and had to head to the hospital for stitches. Full-time 2-0.
