Fleet Town 2 Shaftesbury 0

After the great win on Tuesday night Fleet made it 3 league wins out of 4 with a 2-0 victory over Shaftesbury who were visiting Fleet for the first time ever.

With a number of players unavailable from Tuesday night Fleet were glad to have Sam Williams return from injury and Billy Oram return from suspension. But Sam Williams filling in at right back and Taylor Watts at left back made for another new defensive quartet this season. Fleet came out of the blocks well and although Shaftesbury had the first real chance which flashed wide of the Fleet upright, Fleet took the lead early. A corner wasn’t cleared and Centre back Cavan Atkinson was on hand to poke the ball into the bottom corner to the joy of the fans behind the goal. In what seemed no time at all Fleet were 2-0 up when a scuffed clearance from the Shaftesbury goalkeeper went straight to Bradley Wilson who passed it back into the empty net. Both sides had chances throughout the first half with Paul Coventry, Aaron Redford and Bradley Wilson all having chances blocked or saved. Half Time 2-0

The second half didn’t really live up to the quality of the first half with Shaftesbury coming out and really pushing for that goal that would get them back into the game. Chris Harris in the Fleet goal made a number of good saves, one was outstanding when denying the Shaftesbury forward who was clean through on goal. Fleet still made chances in the second half but couldn’t really find the final ball to get the third goal. Both Matty Pearse and Kieran Nagle-Kelly of the Fleet Under 18 team came on in the second half again, showing the club’s belief in the Under 18 team and the pathway to the first team.
