Overton United 0 Fleet Town 5

On a cold evening Fleet travelled just north of Basingstoke to play Overton United. Overton play in the Hampshire Premier League and this match was in the North Hants Senior Cup, the first round to be precise. Fleet made wholesale changes to the team that played at Balham on Saturday. A number of younger squad members came in with Freddie Gorst and Harry Smith making their full debuts.

The first half was quite an even affair, although Fleet had a lot of the ball they were unable to make many clear cut chances and when they did the Overton goalkeeper was in good form. Overton tried to play football and won a couple of corners. The break through came near half-time when a corner was not fully cleared and in the resultant scramble Fareed was able to poke the ball home for his first goal for the club.

As the temperature dropped and the feet got cold Fleet played some really nice football to extend their lead. Fareed side-footed home from a cross and the Alex Lennon finished twice from close range at the end of flowing moves. Alex has been dual registered at Fleet Spurs trying to get some match time this season. Fleet bought on Freddie Gorst and Harry Smith from the youth team for their debuts and they both fitted in well. The final goal of the night came when Fleet were awarded a penalty. Fareed was given the ball in an attempt to get him the hat-trick and he did not disappoint with a calm finish. Fleet are through to the next round of the cup (the quarter-final) and await the draw.
