Ringwood Town 2 Fleet Town 3

A Tuesday night in the middle of the New Forest is the perfect thing for Fleet Town, to increase their unbeaten run to 4. The evening also showed the great development of players through the club, the best such development for a few years. At the end of the game 5 of the XI on the pitch for Fleet were under 18. A harder than it needed to be 2-3 victory has Fleet moving into the 2nd Round of the Russell Cotes Cup.

The first half started at a lively pace with both teams trying to play football and pass through their opposition. Ringwood were having some good attacks but found Aiden Upward in good form, making a number of good saves. Fleet flashed a few crosses through the Ringwood box and thought they had bundled the ball over the line, however the referee and linesman did not agree. After this good start the game fell into a pattern of poor possession and wayward shots. The half-time score was 0-0

Members of the Ringwood crowd felt that the first 10 minutes were vital as that was often when they conceded goals. And so it came to pass when Billy Oram picked up the ball in midfield drove forward and lashed the ball into the top corner from 25 yards. This settled Fleet and they doubled their lead soon after when Cavan Atkinson brought the ball out defence, beat two players and played an inch perfect pass through to Billy Oram. Billy outpaced the defence and finished nicely into the corner. Another through ball played Taylor Watts in on the keeper and he finished well for a 0-3 lead. It seemed at this point that the game was over, but Fleet fans know better than to think this. Whilst trying to score a 4th goal Fleet were caught out at the back and Ringwood pulled a goal back. Within what seemed a couple of minutes Ringwood hit their own 25 yarder into the top corner for a 2-3 scoreline. With the game going straight to penalties if the scores were level after 90 minutes this lead to 7 or 8 minutes of breath holding and firm challenges. Thankfully for Fleet the final whistle went and Fleet won 2-3. A good evening and thank you to Ringwood Town for their excellent hospitality.
