Shaftesbury 2 Fleet Town 2

After going through January winning 3 out of 4 league games Fleet hoped to continue the good form in February against a Shaftesbury team that they had beaten earlier in the season. As we all know things in football don’t always go the expected way.

Shaftesbury came out of the blocks fast and caught a sleeping Fleet team to be 2-0 up within 17 minutes. Both goals breaks that were clinically finished. After this start Fleet fought their way back into the game keeping the ball and passing well. They got themselves back into the game on 33 minutes when a fine threaded pass from Sam Williams put Jake Hammond clean through. Jake who had scored 3 in 3 games made no mistake to make it 4 in 4 games, not bad for a player who didn’t start the season as a striker. Half-time 2-1.

The second half was much of the same as Fleet dominated possession but couldn’t find their way through a stubborn Shaftesbury defence. Making 3 subs and moving to a more attacking formation just made the play more one way. The equalising goal didn’t come until the 87th minute when a scramble after a Taylor Watts corner was bundled in by Aaron Redford. Not the result Fleet were really looking for but another point in the bank and more goals scored. Full-time 2-2
